Commander’s
Corner HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Halloween is on a Friday, so
please watch out for the little ones and big ones too. The LABOR DAY celebration was a
huge hit and thanks again for
all the volunteers who come out and supported all our events from field
days to jobs around the post, bringing food in for special events your
extra effort keeps the cost down and our post thriving. THANK YOU
ALL! The Auxiliary put on a great
meal and show for the
American Legion’s birthday last month. Fun and laughs had by all
Legionaries. THANKS
AUXILIARY!!! 2009 Membership dues notices
are in the mail! Please pay
now and be an Early Bird, all who pay now will enjoy a free meal on
Saturday November 8th. The membership crew is working feverously to get
membership cards turned around quickly. Our big tent took a lashing during
TS FAY and we have decided not to spend the money to repair it, however,
there is an initiative to have a permanent structure built with concrete
slab. Plans will be presented
at the next General Assembly, please come out and let your voice be
heard. USO Centers in IRAQ and KUWAIT have sent letters and
pictures thanking us for
drink mixes sent to date, however, the temperature is still hot and our
donations are still needed. If you would like to donate $ or packets drop
them off at the USO Mayport or the Post. Get your teams ready the
Pearl Harbor Day Golf tournament scheduled for Saturday, December 6th at
Windy Harbor Golf Club. Sonny
Kirkwood and Lynn Murray have volunteered as the event coordinators and
will be looking for assistance in making this another great event.
The next Beaches Veterans
Association Cookout will be held Sunday October 19th at the POST 129, from
1-5 PM. Come and join the camaraderie with your fellow veterans and help
support the USO No Dough Dinners. We need help with our
children and youth programs-Boys State, School Medals, ROTC Medals and
Oratorical. These programs take about 7 hours per year to execute.
Supporting the Community is our mainstay and your assistance is greatly
appreciated Mid Winter Conference will
be in Orlando 30 October to 2 November at the Rosen Conference Center.
Additional information is at the Department of Florida website
www.floridalegion.com The 5th District meeting is
October 5th at 2 PM - Post
244 Jacksonville. If you can attend, please do as this is the easiest way
to see what the other Posts in the District are
doing. For
God and Country,
Mike

Vibes The 2009 renewal notices are
out and the cards have arrived. We have processed all the cards for
Honorary Life members, members who paid for 3 years and all renewals that
have come in the Post. If you
live in the local area, we put your card in the box for 30 days before
mailing it. We ask you come by the post to pick up your cards to save on
postage. We also laminate the cards—just sign it and put it in the back of
the box. Pete Funderburk will laminate it and put it back in the box.
If you are paying by credit
card, don’t forget the expiration date. Please put your phone number on
the renewal form, so if we have problems with processing it is easier to contact the member to clear up the
problem. Our dues for 2009 are $27
(Early Bird dues are $25 until Veterans Day-November 11th), $23 for 60 and
older. The 3-year dues are $70 for those under 60, $65 for 60 and
older. Paid up for Life membership
is another option and you will not have to worry about yearly notices
again. We will conduct a few
membership drives this year in the local community and we will need your
support. Stay tuned for
upcoming locations and times. National Commander has new
incentive pins for 5 new members and for every 8 new members you sign up
your name will be put in for a drawing of 100 Legion Belt
buckles .
